Educational Scholarships

Naama Adhiambo was born on December 27, 2000. She is another one of our new students joining form one this year. We are excited to be able to provide her with the tools she needs to continue her education. As one of our 4 new students, we haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet Naama yet, but we are looking forward to it.

Stecy Awuor was born on May 12, 1993. She is in form four and will be sitting for her final exam this year. Stacey has such a sweet spirit and we’ve enjoyed the time we’ve spent with her. We are looking forward to her future and are excited to see where she goes.

Sharon Akoth (big Sharon) is Take Heart’s very first educational sponsorship. Delta met Sharon during her first trip to Kenya in 2012 and the two became quickly attached. She was born on June 8, 1996, and is now in form three. Sharon is a perfect example of why we work so hard to protect aged-out orphans. After being sent away by the orphanage she was residing in, Delta lost contact with her. Thankfully, she was able to locate Sharon again in 2013 and quickly got her back in school. Sharon is working hard, doing well, and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Coleta Akoth was born on September 20, 1999 and is currently in form 2. Both of Coleta’s parents died after battling an illness. Coleta was brought to us in April of 2014 as a bright student, but in need of help with school fees. Once we met her, we couldn’t say no. Coleta has a gentle spirit, and we quickly fell in love her genuine gratitude and kindness.

Beatrice is Take Heart’s very first University student, studying teaching at the University of Kisii. We’ve spent lots of time with Beatrice, and we are SO proud of her hard work, discipline, and commitment to her own education. Beatrice frequently accompanies us on shopping trips, negotiating better prices and helping us find our way around Migori. Beatrice is also a single mother, so we are confident that no one is more invested in her future than she is. Beatrice has 12 “Take Heart” moms who are cheering her on from the USA.

Caroline Awuor was born on August 25, 1996. We began sponsoring her in form four where she was granted a leadership position for her school due to her exceptional discipline and academic integrity. Caroline is a bright student with an even brighter smile. She also has an infectious giggle and is an absolute joy to be around. We are so thankful for her leadership, dedication, and amazing sense of humor, and we are proud to be sponsoring her in University.

Sharon Atieno was born on November 9, 1998. Sharon is class secretary in form 3, (which came as no surprise to those of us who know her). She lost both parents to HIV/AIDS. Sharon has a quiet, studious personality and we enjoyed getting to know her during our April 2014 trip. (If you get a big smile from Sharon, you feel accomplished.)

Irene Achieng recently sat for her form 4 exam and is now awaiting the results (due anytime). The amount of pressure these girls face to pass their form exams is tremendous. They wake up before dawn to begin studying and stay up late doing the same. Every morning, we would awake to the sound of them pulling out tables and arranging chairs. We’d hear their quiet whispers and we knew, without even getting out of bed, that they had begun their studies.

Elizabeth Akoth is another new student for 2015 in form one. Elizabeth lost her father 10 years ago and later her mother committed suicide. (Being a single mom in rural Kenya is a difficulty beyond what we can imagine.) She is so grateful for the opportunity to continue her education, and she is hoping to eventually go to University to study nursing.
